Crafts College
Knowledge from here has spread around the globe.
Knowledge from here has spread around the globe. In total, more than 12 000 people from 40 different countries have taken part in the various courses at Nääs. During the second half of the 19th century arts and crafts schools were established in many different parts of the world. A lively discussion took place in the nations at the forefront of this movement about the emphasis on both practical and theoretical training.
The courses evolved and a concept emerged which attracted a great deal of attention, “educational crafts” [In Swedish: ”den pedagogiska slöjden”]. Teachers came to Nääs in order to learn the Nääs method, eventually from all over the world.
The ideas developed at Nääs made a great impact and schools were established in many different corners of the world, including South America, India and South America. All based on Otto Salomon’s educational principles.
The Crafts College is a historical site and reflects the college as it was in the 1800s, but it also remains a centre of further education for arts and crafts.
